HAWKS AND DOVES
AUXART is pleased to announce the completion of Hawks and Doves, a cross-landscape sculpture project at di Rosa Center for Contemporary Art in Napa, California.
The installation, which will be in place through mid December, brings audiences’ attention to di Rosa’s olive grove as a confluence of historic land uses and storylines. The setting has been host to centuries of Native American habitation, 170 years of European-introduced agriculture and nearly 30 years of contemporary art exhibition.
The ongoing work uses miles of salvaged wood rips as the metaphoric flight paths and vantage arcs of animals with disparate strategies for using the same space to satisfy primary needs. And the deeply complicated work of sharing the space.
The work is a vast sculptural line drawing crossing 150 yards of the Center’s landscape, aloft, finding paths through the forest and finally arriving in a monumental, harmonic whorl, a viewpoint above the di Rosa sculpture meadow.

Schedule of Events
Hawks and Doves Live!
Hawks and Doves will take full flight at High Noon on September 21 with a 55-minute live sound conversation between 12 luminaries of classical and jazz-infused improvisation. Featuring drummer Scott Amendola and guitarist Fred Frith, this once-in-a-lifetime ensemble will both rove and nest throughout the installation, working on the fly from a five-part storyboard rather than a musical score. The work, both visually and sonically, is about paying attention; surrendering to the risks and possibilities of collision, and of collusion.
